I knew I wanted to take a solo trip to Mexico for my birthday this year. Since my family vacationed in Cancun 2 years ago, I had to visit again. I booked my trip through Expedia. With Expedia, I could book my flight, hotel, and rental car at a low cost with their add-on advantage program. I had such a fantastic time.
Bahia Principe Coba – All Inclusive
With traveling alone, there is always a safety concern. After doing the research, I knew Mexico was safe to visit. However, staying at a resort seemed like a better option. I stayed at Grand Bahia Principe Coba – All Inclusive in Akumal, Mexico. Akumal is a small town between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, making it easy to travel to the places I wanted to visit. The resort also gave me the option to do secured late-night events.
The resort was massive, with four different sections located along the beach. It offered several other water sports, bikes, ATVs, tours, and plenty more to ensure you’d enjoy your stay.
Casa Malca
Casa Malca Hotel, Pablos Escabar former estate, was spectacular. Its rustic designs mixed with modern artwork provided a luxury oasis. While there, I had a fantastic breakfast off the beach at their restaurant, Philosophy. Then I headed over to the hotel’s cabanas to relax and sunbathe before heading out. Tulum is still one of the places I wish to visit and stay for a while but just beable to explore a little bit was great. The entrance you’ll see below is massive, and you can tell the grounds are well maintained. I also had to take pictures in front of the infamous swing chairs.
Azulik Un May
I was so excited to visit Azulik Un May, a “holistic center for human vision and evolution in the jungle of Tulum created by Roth Azulik.” The center is truly magical. The designs and creation of the environment are full of breathtaking views. The entire center was not open, but I will be adding this back to my list when I visit Tulum. I also recommend following AZULIK Uh May on Instagram because it is incredible!
Chichen Itza and Suytun Cenotes
Number one on my to-do list was to visit the Mayan Ruins and Suytun Cenotes. There are several ruins in Mexico, but I had to see Chichen Itza. It was a two-hour drive from my hotel, and it was worth it.
I was impressed by the rich history and well-preserved pyramids at Chichen Itza. Being able to see the san script on the walls full of stories about the heritage, I was in awe by the whole experience.
I also visited Suytun Cenote underground caverns, shallow water, and freshwater fish. Two cenotes at this site, one you can swim and the other you cannot. The walls are covered with stalactites and open at the top to let in a little bit of magic. The cenote was very cold upon entry. Once I finally submerged myself into the water, it was a glorious feeling. These two places are 10/10 a must-visit if you are fascinated with historical landmarks.
Birthday Day
On my birthday, not only did I visit all those unique places. I also went snorkeling for the first time. It was a struggle because I couldn’t contain my excitement. If you have gone snorkeling before, you know smiling is not an option, which was the hardest part. I had so much fun and cannot wait to do it again.
I arrived back in my room to find a Happy Birthday banner on my door; chocolate and champagne waiting inside it were very unexpected. I set up a late dinner at La Gran Tortuga’s Brazilian restaurant at the resort. My dinner setting was so beautiful, and their staff was phenomenal; it was the perfect ending to my birthday vacation.
Trip Reflection
When I wasn’t out exploring Mexico, I was at the resort on the beach with a drink in hand! Since the resort was all-inclusive, I planned accordingly for my meals. I would eat breakfast before leaving the resort and come back around lunchtime.
My trip was amazing, thanks to the Expedia add-on advantage program. I was able to book this trip at half the cost. I booked all my travels with Expedia, and they will continue to get my stamp of approval for future trips. This vacation consisted of positive vibes, good energy, self-reflection, exploring, lots of margaritas, and pure happiness! If you have more questions about Mexico, please comment below.
